Your database work stays with you.
plainDB connects from your computer to your database. Your database traffic is not routed through a plainDB service. This page explains the app and website separately.
The desktop app
- Connections and history. Connection settings, saved SQL, query history and workspace state are stored locally in your user profile. Query text can contain sensitive information; treat local history and exported files accordingly.
- Credentials on macOS. Database passwords and SSH secrets are stored using macOS Keychain.
- Credentials on Windows. Secrets are protected with Windows Data Protection API (DPAPI) for the current user. The protected blobs are stored in the app’s local database. Copying that database is not a portable password backup.
- Network access. The app contacts database servers and SSH hosts you configure. The current application contains no product analytics or crash-reporting service.
- Exports and backups. Files you create contain the data you choose to export. Their protection and destination depend on where you save or share them.
Optional AI on Mac
The Mac assistant uses Apple’s on-device model through Foundation Models on eligible systems. Selected schema and query context are provided to that model. You can optionally include the first 20 rows of the current result. There is no plainDB cloud AI service in the current app. Review suggestions before running them. AI availability and requirements.
This website
- Fonts and assets. Fonts, scripts and screenshots are served from this website. Visiting a page does not require a Google Fonts request.
- Analytics. Google Analytics measures website visits and engagement. It loads only after you allow analytics in the consent banner. Declining is remembered in local browser storage. Use the analytics settings button to change that choice.
- Optional measurement. Configured analytics can record page views, download clicks and checkout starts. Purchase measurement requires a verified order from a payment service. Database contents, credentials and license keys are not included in those events. See Google’s privacy policy for its processing practices for website analytics.
- Hosting. Cloudflare serves this website and processes request information to deliver and protect it. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
- Payments. Purchases use Stripe-hosted checkout. Stripe processes payment and billing details. The license service stores your purchase email, payment reference, license key and device activation identifiers. Activation sends a randomly generated installation identifier and your computer name; it does not send database contents or passwords. A signed license and trial timestamps are kept locally. See Stripe’s privacy policy.
