Can I use plainDB as a Supabase viewer?

Yes. plainDB can view and query the PostgreSQL database in a Supabase project using a database connection string and password. It connects to Postgres directly or through a pooler; it does not use your project's REST API keys.

Which connection should I choose?

For desktop browsing, start with the session pooler string shown in the project's Connect dialog. Supabase recommends that mode for third-party database tools. It is reachable over IPv4 and supports prepared statements. Copy the full string so you retain the exact pooler hostname and username. Supabase connection documentation.

Add a PostgreSQL connection in plainDB, paste the string, enter the database password and configure SSL. The step-by-step setup guide explains those fields. If a direct endpoint is unreachable from your network, check IPv6 or the project's IPv4 configuration before assuming the password is wrong.

Will it show exactly what my application users see?

Not necessarily. The database role used by the desktop connection determines its access. An administrative role can see data that your application's authenticated users cannot. Test row-level security using the intended application role and authentication context, not simply by checking whether an administrator can open the table.

plainDB manages the database workflow: tables, filters, SQL and reviewed edits. Use the Supabase dashboard or its appropriate tools for Auth, Storage, Realtime and Edge Functions. Read the desktop Supabase guide for the connection and permission differences.
